Projects
Three projects. One job each.
NoWayOS is developed under the NoWayOS organisation on GitHub. Each project is intended to be open source. Their publication is being prepared, and until then the repositories are private.
NoWayOS
The Single Purpose OS.
Protection-domain patterns on seL4 and Microkit, typed messages, drivers, networking and a native user interface, with the dev container and the checks that every NoWayOS repository builds with.
- Runs in QEMU and on the Raspberry Pi 5
- A supervisor, a watchdog and a fail-safe state
- An IP stack and a TLS 1.3 client, in Rust
- Grants, unsafe, licence and secrets checks, and a bill of materials for every image
- Status
- In development
- Licence
- MIT OR Apache-2.0 (intended)
Screen Compiler
Design in React. Ship native Rust. No browser on the device.
Converts React screens, written in TSX to a declared subset, into Rust for NoWayOS's user interface. It runs at build time, on your machine or in CI, and never ships.
- Exact or nothing: anything outside the subset is refused, with its line and column
- The same screen gives byte-identical Rust on any machine
- Each converted screen must match its approved image, pixel for pixel
- A build tool, not a sandbox: convert only screens you trust
- Status
- In development: subset v0 and the first parts of v1
- Licence
- MIT
Showcase
Secure kiosks you can run on a Raspberry Pi.
A kit for secure form kiosks, a reference kiosk to build on, and a launcher of example kiosks under fictional brands that the Raspberry Pi 5 boots into.
- No browser, WebView or JavaScript on the device
- The screen and the application in separate compartments
- Each person's answers are designed to stay only in the kiosk's memory and be wiped when the session ends
- Every screen designed in React and converted by the Screen Compiler
- Status
- Early, and not deployable
- Licence
- MIT OR Apache-2.0 (intended)
Commercial products on the same base
Commercial products are built on NoWayOS too. Anything generic they need is built in NoWayOS itself, in the open, and NoWayOS never depends on a product built on it.
Licences
- NoWayOS and the Showcase are to be released under MIT OR Apache-2.0, at your option. Until their licence files are added, no licence is granted.
- The Screen Compiler is MIT. The Rust it generates from your screens is yours, to license as you wish.
- NoWayOS's glyph atlases are under the SIL Open Font License, the licence of the font they are drawn from, and its icons are under ISC, Lucide's licence.
